The first Broadway revival of Meredith Wilson's 1957 musical comedy, which won eight Tony Awards during its original run (beating West Side Story for Best Musical that year). The story, set in 1912 River City, Iowa, focuses on the arrival of a slick salesman named Professor Harold Hill and his involvement both with Marian the Librarian and the town's efforts towards moral redemption. TV and Film actor Craig Bierko (The Long Kiss Goodnight, and The 13th Floor shown at left) leads as Hill with Broadway favorite Rebecca Luker (The Secret Garden, Show Boat, and the recent revival of The Sound of Music) as his love interest Marian Paroo. Popular songs from the show include "Ya Got Trouble", "76 Trombones", "Till There Was You", "Gary, Indiana" and "My White Knight". Tony-winner Susan Stroman directs, also being represented currently by her new hit musical Contact. |
